xplore this series of 15 portraits of the talented « Indian Fusion » dancer Josefine Wandel, in beautiful places of Rajasthan …

Josefine discovered the Raqs Sharki with 10 years.

The contact with Bollywood Dance awakened her interest to classical Indian dances (Odissi, Bharata Natyam, Kathak). In 2006, she experienced a live performance by Rachel Brice in Berlin and has been intrigued by Tribal Fusion ever since.

Due to her growing interest in Indian arts, she travelled to India after High School. She worked as a volunteer with children and lived among the nomadic gypsies of Rajasthan. This experience has influenced her whole life – and of course also sustainably her style of dance.

Right from the beginning she felt at home in Rajasthan and deeply lost her heart to the Rajasthani culture.

2012 she began her Odissi dance education (Mohapatra gharana) under Colleena Shakti. She travels regularly to India for dance studies. In the past she was very fortunate to learn from great masters of Indian art, such as Sujata Mohapatra and Colleena Shakti.

Josefine is one of the pioneers of the Indian Fusion dance style. She teaches regularly at her school – the Tribal Dance Academy in Berlin. Josefine is also a valued teacher and performer within Germany and internationally.

Together with her colleague Ina she leads the Tribal Dance Academy in Berlin and organizes the Tribal Noir – a Tribal Event in Berlin. Josefine directs the Fusion Dance Company Mohak Devi, which is based on Indian Fusion Dance.

In her interpretation of Indian Fusion, Josefine combines two of her greatest passions – the Indian philosophy of the arts, the aesthetics of classical Indian dances and the strength and power of Tribal Fusion Dance.
